Babylon Club Archive, 2024

Babylon Club Archive works like a peephole, an archive of a new generation inhabiting Babylon, a cult nightclub from the 1990s that has now been transformed into a space for skaters and for punk and techno parties in the city of Ivano-Frankivsk, in western Ukraine. Using an ecstatic camera, I capture the moments before, during, and after participants pose for a photo, which they call a “punk passport” ID. The work is part of my "post-migratory" practice: an ongoing exercise in reconnecting with roots, exploring a sense of belonging, and creating “quasi-passport” records - a practice I had to carry out for almost 20 years while renewing my residence permits in Europe.
