Our flesh sweats sweet, 2014 - ongoing




Our flesh sweats sweet is an ongoing visual diary that I’ve been developing since 2014, focusing on documenting my comings and goings to my homeland, Ukraine, from which I had to migrate when I was nine.

In the last 10 years I have developed a different relationship with my identity and this territory. I started by taking pictures of my close relatives and then of people I met during my travels. As a diary, this serie gathers images from different projects, through which I was able to get closer to my roots.

This archive is a document of how my gaze and dialogue have evolved. Over the past ten years, I’ve blended with these people whose "flesh" sweats so sweetly that my comings and goings eneded up on the final staying.

Our flesh sweats sweet is a love ode to this land and its people. And like any ode, it has different stages, flavors, and timings that have deepened my understanding of what love and belonging are, to the point where even the sweat has become sweeter.
